COSEE Coastal Trends participates in significant collaborations between research, educational, and public outreach organizations, each contributing to the development, refinement, and dissemination of the coastal trends education modules. University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences Horn Point Lab (UMCES/HPL) oversees all Coastal Trends programs, serves as science advisor, and manages daily program operations. HPL also hosts Scientist Educator Partnership orientations and typically hosts at least one Scientist-Educator Partnership Team per summer.UMCES Integration and Application Network (IAN) is responsible for website development and maintenance and internal evaluation of the COSEE Coastal Trends programs. IAN also facilitates the development of participant science communication skills. Hampton University hosts the Communicating Ocean Science to Informal Audiences (COSIA) course and is a partner in the Mentoring Young Scientists program. Hampton University also provides undergraduate students for our Scientist Educator Partnership Teams. The Virginia Aquarium collaborates with Hampton University on the COSIA course and the Mentoring Young Scientists program, hosts Coastal Trends Weekend, and serves as a venue for public dissemination of educational materials developed by Scientist-Educator Partnership Teams. The Maryland State Department of Education and several public school districts are working with Coastal Trends on developing and implementing the Ocean Science course and other ocean-related educational activities. The College of Exploration serves as an external evaluator of COSEE Coastal Trends and hosts web-based community forums to provide an interactive venue for workshop feedback and module review.
